University Teaching and Learning Enabling Plan 2006-2008
Direction and alignment
The Teaching and Learning Enabling Plan [] sets the direction for teaching and learning at Curtin for the next three years.
To enable the University to achieve its strategic objectives, the Plan aligns closely with the Curtin Strategic Plan 2006 - 2008 and will in turn align with the other University-level enabling plans.
Responsibility
The Plan identifies the objectives to be achieved and specifies the performance targets against which success and progress are measured. The Vice Chancellor and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education through the University Teaching and Learning Committee and Academic Board have overall accountability for the execution of the Plan, which will be monitored and controlled as follows:
- The UTLC reviews delivery of the key benefits of the Plan against the targets and submits findings and recommendations to the Academic Board.
- Persons responsible for initiatives identified in the Plan will report progress through their line management to UTLC.
Review
UTLC will review the overall plan and the strategic priorities annually to take account of emerging changes in the external environment.
Priorities for 2008
The following initiatives will be given priority in 2008:
- Implement curriculum renewal and course review process through the Curriculum
2010 project and communicate progress to staff.
- Review and improve student assessment, moderation and the timeliness of feedback.
- Develop and implement Curtin online learning strategies to enhance flexible learning
and improve quality and access to learning materials.
- Ensure Graduate Employability is the focus of the student experience (from student
recruitment to beyond graduation), and particularly a focus for the learning outcomes
and assessment of every course.
- Enhance our focus on our current graduate
attributes, and consciously emphasise their employment-related aspects.
Enhance, clarify and enable the roles and responsibilities of Deans of Teaching and
Learning, Course Coordinators, and Unit Coordinators.
- Implement strategies to improve the quality of teaching in large classes.
- Implement strategies to support students 'at risk' of not achieving satisfactory course
progress.
